A 750 ml bottle holds about 25 small pegs (30 ml) or 12 large pegs (60 ml). A quarter (180 ml) is 6 small or 3 large, a half (375 ml) is 12 or 6, and a litre is 33 or 16. Here are all the bottle sizes in one table, with the approximate calories for each.
| Bottle | ml | Small pegs (30 ml) | Large pegs (60 ml) | Patiala-style (90 ml) | Whole bottle, kcal |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nip / mini bottle | 90 | 3 | 1 | 1 | ~200 |
| Quarter (pauwa) | 180 | 6 | 3 | 2 | ~400 |
| Half (adha) | 375 | 12 | 6 | 4 | ~840 |
| Full bottle | 750 | 25 | 12 | 8 | ~1,700 |
| Litre bottle | 1,000 | 33 | 16 | 11 | ~2,200 |
Rounded down to whole pegs. A "Patiala peg" has no fixed size; 90 ml is shown only as an example of a large home pour. Calories are our approximate estimate for whisky, rum, vodka or gin at around 42.8% alcohol, neat or with soda, at about 65 to 70 kcal per 30 ml. Sweet or flavoured spirits are higher.
Bars usually pour 30 or 60 ml, but a home pour is often different. This is how many pegs you get from a quarter and a full bottle at other sizes.
| Pour size | Pegs in a quarter (180 ml) | Pegs in a full bottle (750 ml) |
|---|---|---|
| 30 ml | 6 | 25 |
| 45 ml | 4 | 16 |
| 50 ml | 3 | 15 |
| 60 ml | 3 | 12 |
| 90 ml | 2 | 8 |
| 120 ml | 1 | 6 |

If the bottle is being split by cost as well, the same maths works for the bill.
A shot glass, a steel tumbler and a free-hand pour are rarely the same. Pour a peg once into a 30 ml measuring cap or a small measuring jug and look at it. Many people find that "one peg" at home is 45 to 60 ml, which changes both the number of pegs in a bottle and the calories.
