Our approximate estimates for typical single servings. Chains and cafés differ by size, toppings and the milk they use, so check the menu if it lists calories.
Three things add the most: frying (fries, puffs, burger patties), cheese and sauces (pizza, sandwiches, rolls) and milk, sugar and ice cream in drinks. A regular cappuccino is only about 100 kcal, but a café-style cold coffee made with ice cream and syrup can be 300 or more, and a milkshake about 400. A 600 ml bottle of cola holds about 250 kcal, which is mostly sugar.
Easy way to read it: the drinks are the easiest numbers to miss. A cappuccino and a milkshake have the same name on the menu but are three or four times apart. The table above puts them side by side.
For snacks you buy in packets see calories in namkeen and packaged snacks, and for sugar in a whole day, how much sugar per day.
