One glucose biscuit is about 22 kcal, a rusk about 50, a slice of plain cake about 180 and a pav about 110. Here are the approximate calories in 16 common biscuits, tea-time items, cakes and bakery pieces, per piece or slice.

Our approximate estimates, based on typical weights and about 4 to 5 kcal per gram for biscuits and pastry. Brands and sizes differ a lot, so the pack, which usually lists calories per biscuit or per 100 g, is the best number.

Small pieces add up

A single biscuit looks like nothing, but the count is what matters. Four glucose biscuits (about 90 kcal) come to nearly as much as one roti, and four cream biscuits (about 220 kcal) are close to two. Rusk is small too, but two dipped in chai with sugar is about 100 kcal for the rusk plus about 75 for the chai.

Flaky and puff items such as khari, puffs and croissants carry butter or oil in the layers, so they come in higher than their size suggests. A veg puff at about 250 kcal is about two rotis.

Comparing with a roti

Easy way to read it: count pieces, not packets, and read the per-biscuit number on the pack. For other packaged snacks see our guide to namkeen and packaged snacks.

A fair caveat

These are approximate numbers for typical pieces, not exact ones, and they are not advice about what you should eat. If you have a health condition or a target from a doctor or dietitian, follow that instead of a general table.
